New COMIC SERIES from Shop Floor Automations

SFA presents a new comic strip series & humor-related Twitter account

Shop Floor Automations (SFA) is pushing the boundaries as the manufacturing industry changes. With a younger MFG audience on the horizon, SFA is looking to make an impact within the social media landscape, just as the company has made its mark in the shop floor automation field.

A new comic series called “Shop Floor Man Presents” premiered from SFA in September of 2016. The character appears in a two square story in which he shows what life is like using SFA’s solutions, while the other shows the horrors he faces elsewhere. The comic will also have future issues that show the trials that machinists can face, and involve other industry-related humor, such as the MFG Day themed comic they released.

“Shop Floor Man is a character that was a collaboration between myself, our previous Operations Manager, and the owner of our company,” says Amanda Rosenblatt, who is the comic strip artist and company’s Marketing Coordinator. “We gather ideas and feedback on comics from the whole company, so it’s fun for them to get involved and the final product is a group effort.”

“I think it is a bold statement because, really, he is purposely drawn badly,” she remarks, with a chuckle. “That’s why we have the tagline ‘Our solutions are better than our comics.’ No one at the company, including myself, has the time to draw or commission someone to make an amazing comic, but we have the humor, stories and resources to make people laugh. There’s charm to him.”

“I’ve heard in this industry a few times how social media isn’t valuable for this line of business, which could not be further from the truth,” says Rosenblatt, who has been in the professional social media realm for close to 10 years.

“I’m not on social media all day, however, having a footprint online aside from just a website is so crucial,” she says. “You have middle school kids, high school teens and college-aged young adults who we are trying to get into this industry, or people like the military veterans being trained at organizations like Workshops for Warriors. These people of these various age groups are attached to their devices and social media – we can reach them and show them this industry is a community.”

“Our comic strip, and the alternative Twitter account we set up called @ShopFloorHumor, are great ways to network with people in this industry,” Rosenblatt says. “There is no greater commonality we all share than the love of laughter and humor. Why not use it for the benefit of a business?”

About SFA
SFA has become the industry leader in Shop Floor Communications and Machine Monitoring Solutions. Totally redefining what “Shop Floor Automation” solutions should be.  With thousands of customers from across the United States, Mexico, Canada, Europe and Asia, SFA was called upon by other vendors to provide other solutions that could be met by our knowledge, support and sales experience of the manufacturing industry.  In 2010, SFA aligned itself with these vendors to close the loop with maintenance management software, job management and scheduling software, hardware manufacturers, and machine tool companies.
