Hexagon Metrology Launched PC-DMIS 2013 at HxGN LIVE

Next Generation Software Features over 40 Product Enhancements

Hexagon Metrology announced the launch of PC-DMIS 2013, a significant development release of the world’s most popular metrology software. PC-DMIS focuses on the collection, evaluation, management and presentation of manufacturing data to reduce scrap, improve throughput, reduce costs, and build lean manufacturing operations. Hexagon demonstrated Hexagon Metrology PC-DMISPC-DMIS 2013 with over 40 software enhancements in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Convention Center during the HxGN LIVE conference, June 3-6, 2013.

Among the enhancements, PC-DMIS 2013 rolls out a major new feature, Width Construction, which facilitates the construction of width features from two opposing sides of a notch, tab, or other similar surface. This new construction is useful for GD&T applications that require the width as a datum in Feature Control Frames. Two dimensional width features can be secondary and tertiary datums, while a 3D width can be used as the primary datum.

Other enhancements include a new ClearanceCube definition allows collision-free movement around complex geometries without a CAD model. The user simply sets two points at opposing corners of the measurement piece or holding fixture and PC-DMIS 2013 automatically creates the ClearanceCube definition.  The same tools may be used to adjust offsets and toggle work-planes or features on and off. Also new for PC-DMIS 2013, Collision Detection Path lines now blink when selected to ensure there are no missed probe collisions.

PC-DMIS 2013 also includes new Solidworks, JT and CATIA v6 Direct CAD Translators, plus updated support for CATIA v5, Pro/E, and Unigraphics. It also includes updated Direct CAD Interface support for CATIA v5, Pro/E and Unigraphics.  A full list of supported CAD platforms may be found at HexMet.us/pcdmisCADsupport. Enhanced Custom Reporting tools present fast and easy to read interactive gages and graphs to PC-DMIS reports. They allow the user to see the percentage of features out-of-tolerance or near tolerance limits at a glance.

“PCDMIS 2013 is the next advancement for our flagship software package. It focuses on a continual improvement of the user experience,” states Ken Woodbine, president of the PC-DMIS software division of Hexagon Metrology. “Over 40 valuable enhancements contribute to the overall workflow improvement across all areas of the product.  With direct participation from over 100 ‘Tech Preview’ volunteers, we continue to gain valued input from real customers as we plan new product development and work to improve each version.” PC-DMIS 2013 is available for download for software maintenance agreement holders.
