Reshoring Initiative Will Deliver Press Briefing on Manufacturing at IMTS
At IMTS the Reshoring Initiative will deliver a press briefing on the subject of adding manufacturing jobs to the US economy:
Who: Harry Moser, Founder and President
What: Reshoring and FDI: Proof that Millions of Manufacturing Jobs Can Be
Added
When: Thursday, September 15, 2016 2:30 to 3:00pm
Where: Media Center S-401
Why: Relevance to the incipient manufacturing renaissance and the presidential campaign. The actual return of jobs makes credible that 100,000s, eventually millions, more will return. Balancing the trade deficit will cause annual purchases of machine tools and other manufacturing technology to increase by about 25% for 20 years, overcoming the current productivity lag.
Reshoring and FDI have added about 250,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs since 2009, 30% of the manufacturing employment increase. Adding another 750,000 requires smarter corporate sourcing decisions and skilled workforce training. A further three million, driving an approx. 25% increase in machine tool sales, requires major national action to level the trade playing field. Details on the trend, success reshoring in Mississippi and the needed corporate and national actions will be presented.
Additionally, Harry will speak on Center Stage between the North and South Halls at 9:30am onTuesday, September 13 as well as Thursday, September 15 on related topics. Moser will sign copies of his book at the AAM booth (NC-273) from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Monday, September 12. For media not able to attend IMTS or the briefing, material will be posted on the Reshoring Initiative website immediately following the close of the show.
Tools for better decisions
The Reshoring Initiative offers many tools and resources to help companies make supply chain sourcing decisions. The Reshoring Initiative’s Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Estimator™ is the best-known publically available tool for this purpose. It uses advanced metrics that allow users to easily determine the total cost of offshoring by accounting for and understanding the relevant offshoring costs, which include inventory carrying costs, shipping expenses, intellectual property risks and more.
About the Reshoring Initiative
A 50-year manufacturing industry veteran and retired President of GF Agie Charmilles, Harry Moser founded the Reshoring Initiative to move lost jobs back to the U.S. For his efforts with the Reshoring Initiative, he was named to Industry Week magazine’s Manufacturing Hall of Fame in 2010. Additional information on the Reshoring Initiative is available at www.reshorenow.org. The Initiative’s many sponsoring associations and companies are also acknowledged on the site.
