Mazak Optonics To Host Activity-Packed Automated Recovery Open House

Mazak Optonics is hosting an Open House that includes laser cutting seminars, a Mazak Optonics customer plant tour and a golf outing at a Robert Trent Jones II designed course. The Open House, scheduled for June 16-17, 2011, at the Mazak Optonics Laser Technology Center in Elgin, Illinois, will address and offer solutions for overcoming post recession manpower challenges faced by today’s manufacturers.

Event seminars, themed “Automated Recovery,” will discuss the impact of automated machine functions and using automated material handling to increase capacity in the job shop environment. To reinforce these discussions, Mazak Optonics will demonstrate its Hyper Technology with Automated Setup, its Tube/Pipe and 3D Laser cutting capabilities and a 10-shelf laser flexible manufacturing system.

“Trends during today’s recovery include smaller lot sizes, shorter backlogs, a lack of skilled workers and uncertainty regarding governmental employment regulation,” said Bill Citron, president of Mazak Optonics. “Implementing leading-edge technology, whether it be a standalone machine with intelligent cut monitoring functions and automated setup, or automated material handling, or both, can significantly increase a shop’s throughput, while lowering its cost per part without direct labor costs.”

On June 17 during the Mazak Optonics Open House, a special plant tour is scheduled for visiting S&D Products, a manufacturer of standard and custom hinges located in Bartlett, Illinois. S&D is a strong proponent of Kan Ban and JIT manufacturing initiatives, which have allow the shop to significantly grow its business and invest in highly advanced Mazak Optonics laser technology. Such technology includes the HyperGear 510 with automated setup functions that allow S&D to more efficiently meet short-run production requirements and to facilitate a more flexible manufacturing strategy.

To wrap up the Open House, Mazak Optonics invites S&D plant tour participants to a golf outing at Prairie Landing Golf Club in West Chicago. The course is recognized throughout Chicagoland as a 5-Star Premier course and rated 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play.”
