Fritz Studer AG Apprentice Wins Bronze at WorldSkills 2019

Josia Langhart, an apprentice at Fritz Studer AG, earned a bronze medal at the 2019 WorldSkills Championship, held from August 23-26 in Kazan, Russia. Langhart, 18, who is completing an apprenticeship at STUDER in Switzerland, took a spot on the podium with his team partner, Raphael Furrer.

Both Langhart and Furrer competed as Swiss champions in 2018 for the 45th WorldSkills Championship and went on to compete against other teams in their category at this year’s WorldSkills. The pair came in third in the mechatronics (automation) category behind teams from Taiwan and China.

During the competition, the young automation engineers had to assemble various modular orders to form a single system with the aid of plans and documentation. Langhart and Furrer were supported by their employers, as well as by Swissmem and the SwissSkills Foundation, as they prepared intensively for the competition. The foundation, which coordinates the SwissSkills Championship and the country’s participation in the WorldSkills Championships, works to find the best skilled trade students across a wide range of industries and prepare them for the competitions.
