New Prima Power LASERDYNE Model 795 XLZ

Prima Power Laserdyne, the world leader in precision multi-axis laser machining systems, announces introduction of the new LASERDYNE 795 XLZ system. This system has a 72-inch (1.83 m) extended Z axis, 80- inch (2 m) X axis, 40-inch (1 m) Y axis, and the latest BeamDirector3  (BD3) rotary-tilt laser beam positioning head.

The 795 XLZ system is designed to drill, cut and weld medium to large volume 3D parts with a minimum of setups helping to insure better part accuracy with a reduction in total cycle time.  It has a unique moving beam motion system and includes a full complement of LASERDYNE hardware and software features. It is the first and only standard multi-axis laser system guaranteeing volumetric accuracy within this large volume.

“Our customers have been asking about larger travels for some time and while we offer a program to re-manufacture LASERDYNE 890 systems there are a limited number of these systems available and the 890 is not always the best solution for  all projects” reported Mark Barry VP of Sales and Marketing at Prima Power Laserdyne. “This led us to think about a system design that would take full advantage of the breakthrough work we have done with the speed and accuracy of the BD 3.  The turbine engine business is undergoing major change.  On one hand there are designs for larger engine components and assemblies that require the advantages of laser processing.  The 795XLZ addresses this segment of the market.  At the same time there is also a design trend for smaller engines, produced in greater quantities than we have seen in the past.”

The 795XLZ is designed for aerospace, turbine engine and contract manufacturing companies that require flexibility of motion and tight tolerances when laser processing. Applications include hole drilling in combustion liners, hydroformed exhaust and heat shield components, nozzle guide vanes and blades; trimming of stamped and spun parts and producing shaped holes for land-based and aero turbine components.

A true “game changer” for laser material processing the new 795 XLZ combines tested and trusted LASERDYNE motion and process control capabilities.  For many applications, the beam quality and flexibility of a fiber laser system is proving to be a benefit. With higher velocity and acceleration, the third generation BD3 has the exclusive LASERDYNE contouring head design with C (rotary) axis travel of + 240 – 660 degrees, and D (tilt) axis travel of + 60 – 240 degrees. Among its many new features for improved accuracy and repeatability are: higher assist gas air-flow, enhanced optical encoders, an adjustable mirror design for easy and accurate beam alignment, and cassette mounted lens and cover slides for quick, accurate changeover.

The system also includes the LASERDYNE S94P control which includes a full complement of standard hardware and software features. These include Automatic Focus Control™ for capacitive part sensing, patented Optical Focus Control (OFC) for sensing of thermal barrier coated surfaces, Drill At Focus™, Hole Diameter Compensation™, ShapeSoft™ software for programming shaped holes, Breakthrough Detection™ for drilling clean, consistent holes with the minimum number of pulses, mapping, airflow measurement and numerous additional software and hardware features.

Accuracy of the new 795 XLS system is certified to ISO 230-1:1996 and 230-2:2006 in accordance with Prima Power Laserdyne standard accuracy and repeatability test procedures. The BeamDirector3 laser contouring head continues to have an industry leading  five-year warranty for crash related incidents.
