SUPERB Industries becomes the fourth manufacturer to receive the global automotive industry’s new quality management certification
SUGARCREEK—When it comes to quality, not all companies are equal.
SUPERB Industries, located in the heart of Ohio’s Amish country earned its IATF 16949 certification placing SUPERB in the top of automotive manufacturing companies in the nation.
An IATF certification signifies a manufacturer has achieved and implemented the international standards for quality management in the automotive industry. The goal of this worldwide set of standards emphasizes defect prevention, provides continuous improvement, and reduces waste and disparity in the supply chain.
According to Becky Vang of the auditing firm TÜV SÜD America, “SUPERB Industries was the fourth company that was granted the IATF certification by our registrar.”
While many companies obtain an ISO quality certification, IATF 16949 recently issued a new set of requirements in 2016 necessitating companies to change their procedures and operations for compliance. Typically this process takes months, even years to accomplish and then pass an intensive audit. SUPERB made the switch in less than one year.
“We knew taking on the upgrade from ISO/TS 16949 to the new IATF 16949 in less than a year was an aggressive plan, but we decided to go for it,” explained SUPERB Quality Systems Director Susan Miller. “The new standard has 106 new requirements to implement and is completely re-numbered. This required a review and rewrite of all quality procedures and related documents, and implementation of the additional requirements.”
With assistance of SUPERB Quality Manager Frank Gordon, Miller and the SUPERB quality team went to work. “It was a monumental task to accomplish this in less than a year. I’m thrilled that we got our new ISO/IATF certificate after our first audit to the new standard,” said Miller.
