Pelican’s Right Angle 3315-R-RA Flashlight Reviewed
Pelican Products, Inc.’s Class I, Div. 1 compliant 3315-R-RA offers a convenient, durable, right angle lighting solution. Derived from the same base as the 3315R, the RA offers three lighting modes for the articulating head that can rotate 90 degrees. Each output has been rated at up to 132 lumens and on its lowest setting will light the way for around 34 hours. The internal battery is rechargeable within five hours.
The flashlight features an ergonomic design, made of durable anti-static impact modified PC/PBT plastics. At 6.2 ounces (176 grams), it has an IPX7 water rating, meaning splashes, rain or snow, and even incidental exposure in a meter of water for 30 minutes won’t phase it, but it is not suitable for swimming, or longer term submersions.
The power switch itself features a battery indicator light, that you might miss when depressing the rubber button with your thumb. When power does get low, it will flash and cut off on its own. Also included on the side of the flashlight is a durable metal clip that can easily secure itself to a front pocket or belt.
One fault against the flashlight is its proprietary charging station. Included with the 3315-R-RA, the charging station holds the flashlight snugly, and is ready for mounting. While some might find it convenient to have at ready to go at your work station, not using a standardized USB charger for the lithium iron phosphate battery makes it less so for the general user. Who doesn’t have access to a USB port and cord these days?
It should be noted, that Pelican does offer a vehicle charger as an added accessory, as well as helmet mounts, a holster, and even the right-angle adapter to convert the standard 3315-R to the RA.
The high visibility yellow design, textured grip, and the high, low, and flashing light level modes, make it ideal for use in hazardous environments. MSRP for the Pelican 3315-R-RA starts at $159.95.
