Hyster Company, an operating division of NACCO Materials Handling Group, Inc. (NMHG), has been selected by the North Carolina Department of Labor as a Million-Hour Safety Award and Gold Safety Award winner.
This is the seventh straight year that Hyster has won both awards.
Million-Hour Safety Awards are given to firms that accumulate one million employee hours with no case of injury or illness involving days away from work. Gold Safety Awards include cases of days away from work, restricted activity or job transfer.
Last year, Hyster reached three million hours without a lost time accident in its Greenville, N.C., facility. That is over 50 percent lower than the industry average for lost time accidents in all Americas facilities and the best in the company’s 80+-year history. In addition, all Hyster worldwide facilities, including plants and offices, reached one million hours without lost time.
“It was a year of safety milestones for Hyster and NMHG,” said John Gardiner, general manager Americas Manufacturing, NMHG. “Achieving zero injuries without a day away from work for such a long period of time sends a clear message that our lean manufacturing principles are paying dividends. We also secured a record-setting 610 consecutive days without days away from work due to injury. That is beyond world class.”
