GROB Systems to Demonstrate 5-Axis Machining Applications, Automation at EASTEC 2023

GROB Systems, Inc., a global leader in the development of manufacturing systems and machine tools, announced it will demonstrate a range of 5-Axis machining applications on its G550 Generation 2 Universal Machining Center with an automated Rotary Pallet Storage System (PSS-R) at EASTEC Booth #1236 at Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA from May 16-18 this year. Attendees can see how GROB meets and exceeds the demands of aerospace, medical and die/ mold machining, and GROB personnel will be on-hand to answer specific customer application questions. Multiple machining demonstrations will be held throughout each day.

GROB machining centers are made in the U.S.A. at the GROB Systems’ 400,000 sq. ft. full production facility in Ohio, and can include advanced automation solutions for dramatically increased productivity. The G550 Generation 2 5-Axis Machining Center offers optimized milling performance for a broad range of part materials, and is equipped with a Siemens 840D SL control, 16k rpm spindle, and an HSK-A63 tool interface. The G550’s unique machine concept includes a horizontal spindle position that permits the longest possible Z-travel path and optimum chip fall. The arrangement of three linear axes offers maximum stability by minimizing the distance between the guides and the machining point (TCP). The G550’s tunnel concept allows the largest possible component to be swiveled and machined within the work area without collision – even with extremely long tools. Three linear and two rotary axes permit 5-sided machining, as well as 5-axis simultaneous interpolation, with a swivel range of 230 degrees in the A-axis and 360 degrees in the B-axis.

Integrated with the G550, attendees will also see the PSS-R900 rotary pallet storage system, which is ideally suited as a modular system with up to 13 pallets that can significantly increase machine utilization and productivity with longer unmanned periods. This system offers optimum entry into automated, highly efficient production with a small footprint. It is equipped with three design versions per machine, and will be shown at EASTEC with 10 pallet storage positions at one to three levels, and a pallet size of 630 x 630 mm (24.8 x 24.8 inches). The PSS-R has a high storage capacity and offers an easily accessible setup station next to the machine control panel, which can be rotated and locked. The system offers clamping on the external setup station during automatic mode and is equipped with a double loading fork which enables very fast pallet exchange.

About GROB Systems

For over 90 years, GROB has been known worldwide for the development and manufacturing of machines and production lines. GROB has in its portfolio several universal 5-axis machining centers as well as a variety of automation solutions. The unique retractable spindle provides unmatched accessibility to the work piece, is the most rigid when extended to the workpiece, and even allows for upside-down machining which provides superior chip control. The Z-axis design also allows tool changes to happen outside of the work area which enables users to machine the largest part that fits in the machine regardless of tool length requirements.

GROB is a family-owned company with global headquarters located near Munich, Germany and has full manufacturing capabilities in the United States, Germany, Brazil, China, and Italy. More than 600 employees at the 400,000 square foot U.S.A. facility in Bluffton, Ohio support GROB customers across North America.
