Sonny Leonard to build 2019 Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes prize.

Renowned engine builder creates his second Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes engine, and this one is bigger than the first one: a custom-built 762-cubic inch, 1,400 HP, naturally-aspirated, hemispherical head EFI engine from Sonny’s World Class Racing. The engine can be street and strip driven on 93 octane gasoline. Winner to be drawn at PRI 2019.

Sonny Leonard and the team from Sonny’s World Class Racing, Lynchburg, VA, is building another high-performance engine for the Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes at PRI, following last year’s record-setting success. According to Leonard, this year’s engine, a, 1,400 HP beast, is even bigger than last year’s custom-built 727-cubic inch engine. “I got a message the other day from Kyle Petty thanking our company for building such an exotic engine,” said Leonard. “He told me to design the next engine even larger. I always try to build the best engine I can for every application, and we’re going to build another unique prize for 2019. It’s a special honor to build an engine when the donations we raise help so many children.”

This is the 31styear of the Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes, and again all proceeds go to the Victory Junction, a camp for children living with serious medical conditions founded by NASCAR’s Petty family. Last year’s sweepstakes raised more than $102,000, crushing the previous record of $59,000.

The engine will include: Sonny’s fully in-house ported hemispherical cylinder heads, Sonny’s/Brodix 5.000 B.S. block with 1.000” raised cam and special hi-flow water jackets, a Bryant billet crank, Carrillo steel billet rods, and much more. Learn more about Sonny’s shop and operation at The winning ticket will be drawn on December 14 near the close of the Performance Racing Industry show in Indianapolis.

For more than 30 years Sunnen, PRI and many well-known engine builders have teamed up to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities within the racing community.
