PRESCOR Celebrates 50 Years in Business

When John Wallace Trepp, a University of Oklahoma-educated mechanical engineer, sold his stake in a heat exchanger business, he wasn’t quite ready to quit altogether. Knowing there was a demand for quality tank heads and a lack of reliable suppliers, he decided to fill the need on his own, starting PRESCOR.

In December of 1969, Trepp officially started his new tank head manufacturing business, PRESCOR. The first tank heads were sent out the doors in May 1970. Once everything was up and running, Trepp was able to offer more sizes and shapes than his competitors, and he was completely dedicated to fulfilling requests on time — something the industry was not known for.

Consistently shipping heads all over the U.S., whether 6-5/8” OD or 96” ID, PRESCOR can cover your tank head needs.

As customers requested additional tank head shapes and sizes, Trepp added new machinery, even going so far as to work with other local engineers to design special equipment he couldn’t find elsewhere. When the company opened, everything fit inside a shop on Main Street in Sapulpa. Less than a decade later, PRESCOR outgrew its original home and moved to its current campus along State Highway 66 in west Tulsa.

Today, 50 years later, PRESCOR has the most extensive inventory of tooling and machinery in the industry, which is how they continue to offer sizes and shapes their competitors do not make. As much as Trepp enjoyed solving mechanical challenges, his real passion centered around people and relationships. He instilled into his company the belief that great customer service comes from putting your employees first. Though he passed in 1994, Trepp’s three sons, Wally, Tom and Rob, have kept the business thriving by keeping that belief alive.

Last year, the company lost another of its leaders when Rob Trepp passed on, leaving the company to his two remaining brothers. Wally and Tom continue to run the business based on the principles upon which their father founded it. They treat their employees like family, going above and beyond to make a difficult job more enjoyable and ensuring a comfortable retirement through generous profit sharing plans. PRESCOR also takes an active part in the communities around it, volunteering and giving to local charities — including the United Way, Neighbor for Neighbor, Tulsa’s Neediest Families and many others — through a spirit of generosity taught by John Trepp when he signed himself and his three sons up to volunteer with the Salvation Army each Christmas.

Family businesses often falter when passed on to the next generation. PRESCOR is still going strong. Many employees have been with the company for over 20 years; several employees have celebrated 40 years on the job. The company continues to acquire new machinery, adding new plugs and rings to make new products, and support new industries. Still serving many of the customers their father served when the business first opened, this company is sure to thrive in the next 50 years and beyond.
