National Manufacturing Day, an initiative created by The Manufacturing Institute and the National Association of Manufacturers, is designed to raise awareness for the modern manufacturing job market and the opportunities available for the next generation of workers. Celebrated annually on the first Friday of October (this year on October 6), Manufacturing Day typically features a variety of events and initiatives to showcase modern manufacturing careers and how the industry has evolved over the years.
“At Rootstock Software, we’re grateful to have this day to reflect on the critical role manufacturers play in our economy. Among our customer base, these companies make the products we rely on and enjoy every day—from fine linens, outdoor cushions, and awnings to equipment that prevents fires, processes food, and diagnoses disease, as well as advanced robotics, nanotechnology, concrete products, and sheet metal parts. As these manufacturers scale and grow their businesses, they create boundless career opportunities,” said Raj Badarinath, Chief Marketing & Product Officer at Rootstock Software.
However, manufacturers are trying to attract the best and brightest candidates in a highly competitive environment. “As a way to show our appreciation, we asked our customers to allow us to showcase their open opportunities in the hopes of raising greater awareness and helping to accelerate their recruiting and hiring process,” added Badarinath.
Many people have preconceived notions about manufacturing, but open houses and recruiting events can help candidates get a better glimpse into the industry. One Rootstock customer, Burlington Medical, which engineers the lead aprons and other protective wear around radiation, believes it’s also important to recognize their employee contributions.
“We’re celebrating our manufacturing employees with a lunch at all our sites,” said Laurie Cusic, VP of People and Culture at Burlington Medical. “At our company, everything we do is to serve one mission: Save Lives. It is through the relentless pursuit of excellence that our manufacturing employees do this better than any other radiation protection garment manufacturing company in the world.”
Employee retention is a critical part of the manufacturing job market. Events and initiatives where employers show appreciation for employees help boost morale, reduce turnover, and improve workplace culture.
Over the past decade, the manufacturing industry has undergone a complete transformation, now relying on advanced technology to automate and streamline operations. Today, many manufacturers are seeking candidates who have experience with or training on Rootstock Manufacturing ERP. To help in this regard, Rootstock is assisting in employee development by offering extensive education through its Learning Center.
