FMA Announces Andrew Gross 2018 ASD Steel Executive of the Year Award Winner

The Association of Steel Distributors (ASD) is proud to announce that Andrew (Andy) Gross, president and CEO at Alliance Steel LLC, Bedford Park, Ill., has received the 2018 ASD Steel Executive of the Year Award. Since 1956, this award has recognized individuals who have made lasting contributions to the steel distribution industry over a significant period of time, and it is the most distinguished honor in the industry.

ASD Vice Chair Michael Sawyer, vice president and co-owner of Universal Metals LLC, Toledo, Ohio says, “Andy is a true leader in our business, and a well-respected mentor within the industry. He has tirelessly served the ASD for many years, and truly represents the full essence of a Steel Executive of the Year award winner.”

Former ASD president and 2015 Steel Man of the Year recipient Lisa Goldenberg, president of Delaware Steel Company of Pennsylvania, says, “Andy’s entrepreneurial spirit is a real inspiration to many people, and his long-standing commitment to the steel industry is exemplary.”

Upon receiving the award, Gross was humbled to become part of this rich legacy, stating, “I am extremely honored to be chosen for this prestigious award. I have been associated with the steel industry for 40 years and look forward to an active year of growth in both our industry and ASD.”

Gross began his career in the steel business working for his father, Al Gross at Essak Steel in the late 1970s. Learning the steel business from the ground up, Gross went on to purchase Alliance Steel Corporation in 1997. The company formed its headquarters in Bedford Park, Ill., in 1999. As the company grew, two additional sales and service offices were added in Atlanta and Memphis. Gross’ leadership has transformed a once small toll processor into a world-class flat-rolled steel service center. The company has continued its expansion and recently formalized plans to relocate its headquarters to Gary, Ind., where additional space, increased processing capacities, and a geographically improved location has Alliance poised for future success.

Gross has proudly served as president and chair of the ASD since 2017, as well as an FMA Board member. He will be honored at a special celebration during the FMA Annual Meeting on March 5 in Nashville. Click HERE to learn more.
