Essilor Among World’s Most Sustainable Companies for third year running
Essilor has, for the third consecutive year, earned the distinction of being ranked among the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World (Global 100) Index. The results were announced today by Corporate Knights at the World Economic Forum.
The Global 100 index is based on a list of twelve quantitative key performance indicators, from energy, water and waste productivity, to innovation and employee safety. Companies named to the Global 100 index are selected from a starting universe of 4,609 listed companies with a market capitalization greater than $2 billion (USD).
Commenting on the renewed recognition of the Group’s sustainability performance, Jayanth Bhuvaraghan, Essilor’s Chief Corporate Mission Officer, said “We are very proud to be ranked once again amongst the world’s most sustainable companies. At Essilor our mission is to improve lives by improving sight. For over 165 years sustainable development has been at the heart of our business model, both in the way we manage our business, but more importantly in our contribution to the 4.3 billion individuals in the world who need vision correction and the communities in which they live.”
Sustainability is firmly embedded in Essilor’s culture that values innovation, diversity and respect for the individual as key drivers of the group’s long-term growth and profitability. Best-practice sharing is widely encouraged through the group’s internal Sustainability Awards program which recognizes the most innovative projects making an impact on workplace well-being, on the communities in which Essilor operates and on the environment. Open to Essilor’s 60,000 employees and partners, the Sustainability Awards this year received over 100 projects from 17 countries.
Essilor is widely recognised for its Environmental (E), Social (S) and Governance (G) approach and is the only company in its industry to be part of five major social responsibility indices including Stoxx ESG Leaders, FTSE4Good, Ethibel Excellence, ECPI® Ethical EMU Equity, and ECPI® Ethical Europe Equity.
Listed on the Low Carbon 100 Europe Index®, Essilor is a long time signatory of the Caring for Climate Initiative and a reporter in the Carbon Disclosure Project.
