Founded in 1969 by Edwin Christensen, the original Sky Hook was developed as a solution for lifting chucks on and off of lathes. Four family owned and operated generations later, the Sky Hook has become the industry favorite for solutions based lifting injury prevention.
Lifting injuries are common in many manufacturing operations. According to OSHA back disorders are one of the leading causes of disability for people in their working years and afflict over 600,000 employees each year with a cost of about $50 billion annually.
“In manufacturing, time is money. All too often, operators will reach to lift something they know they shouldn’t but are unwilling to wait for the overhead crane or forklift to be available,” explains Thomas Christensen, vice president of design for Syclone ATTCO Services. “The Sky Hook provides a fast, easy to use solution which eliminates the need to take dangerous shortcuts.”
The Sky Hook is a portable, ergonomic lifting device that works as a companion to an operator. With its small, lightweight, and easy to maneuver design, a person can lift hard to reach loads that could otherwise cause painful and costly lifting injuries.
Sky Hooks have been used in a vast variety of applications from lifting sensitive cleanroom semiconductor equipment to weighing calves in a field. Though the Sky Hook is most commonly used for material handling in a shop environment, the company receives calls every day about how the Sky Hook could be the perfect solution for a unique application.
“Our focus for 2019 is in providing our customers with full access to our complete Sky Hook and accessory product lines and all the information they need to determine which product will best fit their needs,” says Christensen. “That’s all being accomplished through a new interactive website experience which will give our customers everything they need to find the lifting solution they’ve been searching for.”
