Sandvik Hyperion in IMTS
Sandvik Hyperion was created in 2014 from the merger of Sandvik Hard Materials and
Diamond Innovations. Headquartered in Fair Lawn, NJ, Sandvik Hyperion supplies
cemented WC, diamond and cubic boron nitride solutions into a wide range of markets
(automotive, aerospace, biomedical, electronics, mining, oil and gas, consumer products,
steel, construction, and more). A global business, Sandvik Hyperion sells into more than 75 countries, has manufacturing units on four continents, and R&D teams in the U.S., Europe,and China.
For metal cutting applications Sandvik Hyperion supplies cemented WC, diamond and cubic
boron nitride tool blanks and inserts to tool makers to be manufactured into finished tools. Products include rotary tool blanks for drills and end mills, polycrystalline diamond (PCD) blanks for inserts and round tools, polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) blanks and inserts, 2D and 3D cemented WC insert blanks, gear hobb blanks, and saw tips. At IMTS, Sandvik Hyperion featured new WC and PCBN grades for improved performance in aerospace and automotive applications. For aerospace, AM70 cemented WC grade for rotary tool blanks shows excellent performance in milling Titanium. Laboratory and field testing results indicate performance improvements of up to 2x versus existing solutions.
For CFRP machining, Sandvik Hyperion is offering two new solutions: Cemented WC grade AM60 engineered for CVD diamond coatings, often used for CFRP milling; and for CFRP and Titanium stacked materials, a veined PCD blank for finishing into twist drills. For automotive applications, Sandvik Hyperion is promoting a new series of PCBN grades for hard steel turning and powdered metal machining. The new versatile V-series cemented WC supported and VS-series solid PCBN grades cover a range of hard turning (from continuous to heavy interrupted), hard milling (such as CV joint milling), and powdered metal (such as valve seat machining) applications.
