WINDSOR, CT / February 7th, 2011 – The top management team at Walter Surface Technologies International just got the good news that eight of their products have earned Clean Air Solvent (CAS) certifications from one of the most strict air pollution control agencies, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD).
“Most major international companies achieve certification for a few products. Walter has proudly scored with EIGHT! This is significant for us as we continue our mission to contribute to our customers’ success by helping them work better while also cleaning up the environment.” – says Patrick Lapointe, VP Marketing, Walter Surface Technologies International.
“All products have successfully met all of the requirements for a CAS certificate. Congratulations and our sincere thanks for your help in cleaning up the air” stated David DeBoer, Program Supervisor, Area Sources – SCAQMD.
The eight Walter products which received CAS certification:
Alustar 200
A concentrated alkaline cleaner/degreaser for the cleaning of aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys in automated parts-washing systems, ALUSTAR 200 is ideal for dissolving oil, grease, lubricants and grime.
Alustar 300
This is an extra strength alkaline cleaner/degreaser for ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Excellent for heavy-duty maintenance, as well as repair and overhaul cleaning applications, it is also helpful for fast and efficient removal of the most persistent contaminants on aluminum, steel and stainless steel.
Bio-Rust
A neutral pH rust remover, this pH neutral solution eliminates rust on all ferrous alloys.
E-Weld 3
This unique, high performance anti-spatter solution protects work pieces from adherence to high energy spatter while eliminating costly spatter removal operations.
E-Weld 4
State of the art weld spatter release emulsion which protects work pieces from adherence of high energy spatter and eliminates costly spatter removal operations – only anti-spatter on the market which helps prevent the formation of weld porosity.
Star 200
A Degreaser for ferrous alloys it is also a concentrated alkaline cleaner/degreaser for cleaning iron, cast iron, steel and stainless steel in automated parts-washing applications. STAR 200 exhibits excellent dissolving capabilities on oil, grease, lubricants and grime.
UNO S
This high strength degreaser offers an excellent dissolving property. Its low energy surfactant technology allows the product to achieve optimal results at ambient temperature. Its foaming action makes it also ideal for manual cleaning.
UNO S F
This high strength degreaser, is foamless which makes it ideal for manual applications where foaming would interfere.
The CAS Certification Program
The stringent rules of CAS actually establish SCAQMD’s ozone reduction strategy, as these rules control VOC emissions from numerous uses of solvents in industrial, commercial, and general purpose cleaning and degreasing activities.
The low VOC requirement of the rules coupled with availability of new solvents generate a new class of solvent termed “Clean Air Solvent” (CAS). In order to qualify, the clean air solvent has to meet all of the following criteria:
- VOC concentration at no more than 25 grams of VOC per litre of material, as applied;
- Composite vapour pressure of not more than 5 mm Hg of VOC at 20°C (68°F);
- Reactivity lower than toluene; and,
- Contains no compounds classified as Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) by the federal Clean Air Act, Ozone-Depleting Compounds (ODCs), or Global Warming Compounds (GWCs).
