Smith Metal Products Brings The Latest In MIM Metal Injection Molding Capabilities To FABTECH 2019, Booth A3w573

See Example MIM Parts Firsthand

The latest expertise in molding metal parts with complex geometries in medium to high production volumes will be presented by Smith Metal Products at Fabtech 2019 in Booth A3573. Smith Metal’s sales engineers will explain the benefits of its MIM metal injection molding processes that include stainless steel, steel, titanium and most ferrous materials.

MIM From Smith Metal Produces Net-Shaped Parts Fast

MIM achieves medium to complex metal parts quickly while eliminating extensive machining. MIM and TiMIM parts are typically less than 100 grams and lengths up to 3” by 0.25” inches thick. MIM parts are great candidates for use in firearms, defense, medical, dental, orthodontics, computer, aerospace, automotive, appliance and recreation. Example parts will be on display at the show. Smith also offers a “Hybrid Option”, MIM parts with a few features finish machined (In-House) to meet closer tolerances.

Parts suitable for MIM processing include those that have annual volumes of 10,000 pieces up to several million and finished part weight of 0.3 grams up to 100g (3.5 oz). All dimensions of the component should be 3 in. or less and maximum wall thickness should be 3 mm (0.125 in.) or less. MIM parts must be ferrous metals.

Smith Metals Operates State-Of-The-Art MIM Facilities

Show visitors will see videos of Smith Metals high capacity facilities. They include the latest electric molding machines, continuous and batch debind and sintering furnaces, 5-axis CNC machining and grinding centers, ceramic kilns, coining, laser etching/engraving and inspection lab. Smith also has a network of value-added services including plating, laser etching and engraving, heat and HIP treatment, surface finishing and polishing, assembly, final pack out and custom automation.

Smith Metal Products has recently added 3D Binder-Jet Metal Printing to its capabilities. The 3D Binder-Jet Metal printing was to support customer’s R&D efforts and a bridge to MIM molded parts when feasible.

You can see and hear the many benefits of Smith Metals advanced MIM processes at Fabtech 2019, Booth A3573.
