Where to see the SPOT AL EQS Infrared Pyrometer from AMETEK Land

AMETEK Land, the leading non-contact temperature measurement specialist, is showcasing the combined power of its industry-leading SPOT AL EQS (Extrusion, Quench and Strip) infrared pyrometer with the new SPOT Actuator, at two of the aluminium industry’s leading international events this autumn.

Delegates visiting ALUEXPO 20175-7 October, at the Istanbul EXPO Centre in Turkey and Aluminum USA 201725 – 26 October in the Music City Centre, Nashville, USA, can see AMETEK Land demonstrate how the SPOT AL EQS pyrometeraccurately measures temperatures in extruders and rolling mills and how, when paired with the new SPOT Actuator, the combined system can make significant efficiency gains for aluminium plants.

AMETEK Land, SPOT AL EQSThe SPOT AL EQS was specifically designed to work on low and uncertain emissivity aluminium production processes where regular pyrometers might struggle to provide accurate and reliable readings. It has the ability to measure a wide temperature range from 200 to 700 °C / 392 to 1292 °F.

Richard Gagg, Industry Manager – Metals for AMETEK Land, said: “The SPOT AL EQS is a revolutionary pyrometer, designed for accuracy and convenience. It inncorporates AMETEK Land’s 35 years of experience producing high-accuracy, reliable temperature measurement equipment for the aluminium industry. The SPOT Actuator is an exciting innovation which, when used in combination with the SPOT AL EQS, can further optimise plant efficiency and achieve even greater accuracy and cost savings for aluminium producers.”

The new SPOT Actuator provides enhanced target alignment for the SPOT AL EQS. It is a motorised unit which is designed for use at the die exit or quench exit on aluminium extrusion presses and is capable of operating in automatic or operator controlled modes to suit the needs of an individual aluminium plant. Compact, quick and easily configurable, the SPOT Actuator is designed for mounting the SPOT AL EQS pyrometer onto the press face, or suitable part of the press superstructure in close proximity.

Richard Gagg added “The combined system is extremely accurate and flexible, with application specific algorithms that make it especially suitable for use at the extruder press exit and quench position, as well as at mill entry and exit positions in hot rolling mills. In addition, the SPOT AL EQS pyrometer’s algorithms can be customised and tuned for custom applications and specific aluminium grades.

We have had a great deal of interest from across the world in the SPOT AL EQS pyrometer, and the addition of the SPOT Actuator is set to enhance this even further. We are looking forward to showcasing the power of the combined instrument at ALUEXPO 2017 and Aluminum USA 2017.”

Both ALUEXPO 2017 and Aluminum USA 2017 are leading aluminium industry events, attended by professionals from across the world. They are the meeting places for suppliers of raw material, semi-finished and finished products, surface treatment and producers of machinery, plant and equipment for aluminium processing and manufacturing.

Alongside the SPOT AL EQS and SPOT Actuator, AMETEK Land manufactures a range of temperature measurement instruments, specifically designed for the aluminium industry, including:

  • Aluminium Billet Thermometer – to provide fast and accurate measurement of temperature on the cylindrical surface of billets – either a spot measurement or a complete lengthwise profile.
  • Aluminium Coiler Process Thermal Imaging System – to provide temperature measurement profiles of coils.
