Mazak Will Bring Machining Value and Productivity to SOUTHTEC 2019

SOUTHTEC 2019 | Booth #1709

Fulfilling manufacturers’ needs for modern machines that are both cost-effective and highly productive, Mazak Corporation will spotlight its QUICK TURN 250MSY Multi-Tasking Machine, QT-PRIMOS 100 Turning Center with GR100 Gantry Loader and the VCN-570C Vertical Machining Center at SOUTHTEC 2019, October 22-24, in Greenville, South Carolina at the Greenville Convention Center. In booth #1709, Mazak, in partnership with Premier Engineering LLC, will give visitors the opportunity to experience the machines under full power and running real-world parts.

The QUICK TURN 250MSY sports several productivity-enhancing features that include a direct-drive turret design, high-torque main spindle, a powerful milling spindle and Mazak’s MAZATROL SmoothG CNC control. The Kentucky-built machine has two turning spindles, a rotary tool milling spindle and Y-axis capabilities for single-setup DONE IN ONE precision part-processing operations. The machine’s 12-position, direct-drive turret eliminates the use of belts for improved part surface finishes and reduced maintenance. It accepts both VDI and bolt-on tooling.

As a space-saving machine that requires only 55″ x 49″ of floor space, Mazak’s QT-PRIMOS 100 – when paired with the GR100 – provides shops with fully automated part loading/unloading for exceptional production efficiency. Mazak pre-engineered the GR100 for easy integration with the QT-PRIMOS machine platform, which means it requires no special robot/machine interface and programs easily. For application flexibility, two GR100 workpiece-table configurations are available, as is end-of-arm tooling with three-jaw grippers.

All GR100 robots come equipped with a simple-to-configure, D3, two-sided, three-jaw gripping hand with a part range up to 7″ in diameter, 6″ in length and total weight of 44 lbs. The field-proven D3 hand design allows shops to load/unload a wide variety of chuck work. To significantly reduce machine idle time, Mazak complements the GR100 with a fast, servo-driven automatic door that allows the robot entry into the machine envelope at a 3,937 ipm rapid rate on the robot’s A axis and 7,087 ipm rapid rate on its B axis.

Featuring a rigid, box-shaped bed design, the QT-PRIMOS 100 has a maximum swing of 17.48″ and can accommodate parts up to 7.09″ in diameter and 7.87″ long. Axis travels for the machine are 4.33″ in X and 9.45″ in Z, with low-friction linear guides providing high-speed positioning for these axes. A tailstock enables the machine to process shaft-type workpieces.

For those SOUTHTEC attendees that want to process large parts or multiple small workpieces in single machine setups, Mazak’s Kentucky-built VCN-570C offers advanced technology, performance and value for an expansive variety of metalcutting applications. A wide range of spindle options allows those shops to achieve an effective balance of speed and torque for their particular machining needs and workpiece materials.

Contributing to the machine’s productivity is an extremely fast traverse rate of 1,654 ipm in the X, Y and Z axes. A servo-driven automatic tool changer can be combined with an optional 60-tool magazine to bring even more part-processing versatility through reduced tool setups for more spindle uptime and more productivity.
