Fronius Wirefeeders: All-round Protection for Portable Use

Fronius has expanded its Case wirefeeder range for mobile use in harsh environments. In addition to the VR 5000 Case that has been available for the TransSteel power sources for quite some time, the company has now introduced suitable wirefeeders for the TPS/i (WF 25i Case) and TPS (VR 4000 Case) series. Users can choose between versions with a standard spool (D300) or a small spool (D200). The completely closed and shock-resistant devices are protected against dust, humidity and water spray, making them particularly suitable for use on oil rigs, in shipbuilding, rolling stock manufacture and anywhere where harsh environmental conditions prevail.

The VR 5000 Case wirefeeder for D300 spools is protected against dust, humidity and water spray; a feature of all Case wirefeeders from Fronius.

The flame-resistant housing of the wirefeeder is designed for mobile applications, right down to the last detail. The briefcase format and the ergonomically designed carry handle enable the Case equipment to be carried over long distances. With external dimensions of 613 x 244 x 437 mm, the wirefeeders for the D300 spool are already very compact. If that is not small enough, the user can always rely on the D200 wirefeeders, with dimensions of only 507 x 200 x 320 mm, a weight of less than 10 kg and which fit comfortably through any opening of up to 350 mm in diameter.

As with all Case wirefeeders for small spools, the VR 5000 Case for D200 spools weighs under 10 kg and fits through any manhole

Skid runners and a design with smooth contours ensure that the Case wirefeeders do not get caught. In addition, the control panel is recessed, an inherently safe design feature protecting it against damage. Fronius has also made sure that the connections cannot come loose while the device is being used. Devices in the Case series can be used in a horizontal or vertical position.

To protect the wirespool, motor plate and internal connections the device is fitted with hinged side covers on both sides. These are easy to open and close even when wearing gloves.

Various equipment configuration options enable the wirefeeder range to be expanded further. For example, Fronius offers gas-cooled or water-cooled versions. An optional gas flow meter enables users to set and check the flow of shielding gas directly on the wirefeeder with great precision. The optional On/Off switch prevents unwanted touchdown ignition during transit. If desired, the wirefeeder can also be ordered with an electrode socket attached to the rear of the device for MMA welding.
