GF Machining Solutions Will Bring Efficiency to SOUTHTEC

For job shops constantly challenged with inefficient and sluggish part-processing operations, GF Machining Solutions will showcase the Mikron MILL E 500 U 5-axis machining center and its AgieCharmilles FORM P 350 precision die-sinking EDM in booth #309 at SOUTHTEC 2019 in Greenville, South Carolina. Both machines incorporate several integrated design features specifically for precision, speed and ease of use.

The MILL E 500 U delivers quality parts and optimal chip removal, making it an ideal solution for job shops and parts manufacturers in the automotive, energy and general machinery markets. The MILL E 500 U swivels from a range of -120 to +60 degrees, and its table accommodates loads up to 992 lbs (450 kg), which allows shops to machine a wide range of parts. A rigid, stable C-frame cast-iron machine construction reduces vibrations to deliver high levels of accuracy and repeatability, while large guideways double side-supported rotary tables and optimize chip evacuation.

The MILL E 500 U’s powerful 20,000 rpm Step-Tec spindle tackles both rough milling and drilling operations. As compared with its predecessors’ models, the MILL E 500 U increases metal removal rates by 20 percent, which reduces manufacturing costs by 15 percent.

With integrated automation solutions, such as the System 3R WorkPartner 1+, shops can take advantage of lights-out operations with the MILL E 500 U. The resulting increase in productivity can reduce costs per part and further improve overall operational efficiency.

Sporting a compact C-axis construction, fixed table and cast-iron frame, the FORM P 350 EDM offers high stability and force reduction to help maintain a precise spark gap between workpiece and the electrode. Regardless of part weight or dielectric volume, the FORM P 350 delivers consistent accuracy and surface finishes of Ra 0.1 μm. Integrated glass scales preserve long-term repeatability and eliminate the need for recalibration as well as errors typically found in traditional screw systems due to backlash and wear.

With integrated quality-enhancing and cost-saving intelligence, GF Machining Solutions’ TECFORM module on the FORM P 350 ensures that the EDM process is continuously optimized with each pulse to significantly reduce electrode wear and/or obtain the finest surface finishes. Segment-dedicated technology eliminates the need for the operator to adjust the machine’s generator parameters, and spark process control takes a fraction of a second and produces an extremely homogeneous surface finish.

The FORM P 350 comes standard with a four-position linear tool changer for System 3R macro tooling. A Rotary Tool Changer (RTC) can be added to replace the four-position linear tool changer on the left side of the machine to increase the number of electrodes up to 160 in a very small space. The FORM P 350 can also be paired with the System 3R WorkPartner 1+ robot for unattended night and weekend operation.
