OMAX Corporation’s ProtoMAX abrasive waterjet is a compact, self-installed cutting system ideally suited for prototyping and relatively low volume cutting of almost any material under 2” thick. The ProtoMAX brings all the versatility benefits of large abrasive waterjet cutters in a sleek and economic package that’s perfect for small job shops, engineering classrooms, makerspaces, and personal use. It’s also a handy addition for large shops and fabricators that need occasional waterjet capabilities to complement their other cutting systems.

Though compact, the ProtoMAX delivers 30,000 psi cutting power with a 5 hp pump and can precision cut material under 2” thick of almost any type, from metal to composites, glass to granite, plastic to wood, and more. The ProtoMAX cuts with no heat-affected zone and no change to the material properties. The waterjet plugs into a 240V AC dryer-style outlet and does not require any hardwiring. The pump and cutting table are on casters for easy relocation. Work material is submerged under water for clean, quiet cutting that won’t disrupt a shared work space.

OMAX manufactures the ProtoMAX at the OMAX facility in Kent, Washington, including the pump, cutting head, abrasive feeder, motion controller and software. All parts are designed to work together as a complete, integrated system.

“It’s easy to program even complex paths on the ProtoMAX,” explains Stephen Bruner, vice president of marketing at OMAX Corporation. “We’ve taken many of the same popular CAD/CAM software features that we use in our industrial waterjet systems and incorporated it into the compact ProtoMAX waterjet. Behind the scenes, the software uses sophisticated waterjet cutting models that predict the jet’s precise behavior when cutting different materials, thicknesses and shapes. But the user interface is simple and straightforward, making it an ideal learning tool for computer-aided manufacturing.”

Extending to More Customers

The new GlobalMAX line is available exclusively through international distribution and incorporates two and a half decades of waterjet industry research and development. Like all OMAX waterjet systems, the pump, table and software in the GlobalMAX machines are designed, manufactured and tested as complete units at the OMAX headquarters in the USA.features our proven direct drive pump technology, easy-to-use software, and innovative drive technology. We build waterjet systems that help our customers make money in the short and long term and this product line is no exception. With GlobalMAX, OMAX aims to redefine value-oriented waterjets.”

Cutting Any Material with High Precision

The OMAX 80X is a premium performance waterjet machine designed for precision processing large, complex components or multiple parts with speed and precision. The Tilt-A-Jet cutting head’s automated taper compensation achieves virtually zero taper cutting without slowing down cutting speed. With the water-resistant Rotary Axis head for complex 3D parts production, the OMAX machine’s capabilities expand to cut in as many as 6 axes.

The MAXIEM 1530 offers machining advantages in a cost-efficient waterjet machine with a multitude of available accessories. The 1530 is ideal for fabrication shops, metal service centers, job shops as well as architectural, sign, stone and gasket shops. The A-Jet articulated cutting head cuts accurate beveled edges, angled sides and countersinks. OMAX’s Rapid Water Level Control allows for quiet and clean submerged cutting.

Easy-to-Use Control Software

OMAX waterjets are easy to operate. The Intelli-MAX control software was engineered specifically for use with abrasive waterjets and no special machine code knowledge is required to use it. A person unfamiliar with CNC machine operation can learn to cut parts on an OMAX waterjet in just a few hours. Online training for machine operation and maintenance is provided free, so customers can access training information whenever they need it and at their own pace.

In addition to being easy to use, Intelli-MAX software is compatible with more than 90 different file formats, including all major CAD program file types, plus graphics file formats such as .jpg, .gif, and .png files. This means almost any 2D or 3D part file can be imported directly into an OMAX waterjet controller and turned into a real part.
