ESPRIT Joins Forces with Automation Partners at Okuma Winter Showcase

The Okuma Winter Showcase, to be held in Charlotte, NC, on December 5 and 6, will bring ESPRIT and a handful of industry partners together to demonstrate the complete, end-to-end automated machining process.

At this year’s Okuma Winter Showcase, ESPRIT by DP Technology will join with Okuma, FANUC, Gosiger Automation, Kitagawa-NorthTech, Predator, Renishaw and Sandvik to demonstrate how the entire machining process — from raw material to inspection of the finished product — can be easily automated using off-the-shelf solutions.

Rear Suspension Bracket, Okuma Winter Showcase, ESPRIT, OkumaShowcase attendees will be able to witness the complete machining process of a rear suspension bracket on an Okuma MULTUS B300II using ESPRIT G code, Kitagawa-NorthTech work holding and Sandvik tooling (including Capto C6 turning tools optimized for multi-task machines, CoroChuck 930 hydraulic chucks optimized for multi-task machines, CoroMill Plura endmills and threadmill, and CoroDrill drills optimized for aluminum). During the process, a FANUC collaborative CR-35iA robot, which is controlled by Gosiger Automation’s interfacing control, will automatically load and unload the machine, as well as Renishaw’s Equator gauging system. Predator software will handle machine monitoring and document management for the process. When the entire process is completed, Renishaw Equator will inspect the part.

“We’re showing how efficiently you can automate the programming and machining of parts — all with out-of-the-box solutions,” says Dan Parry, applications engineering manager for DP Technology’s Eastern Region. “While every solution used in this demonstration is the latest cutting-edge technology, none of it is custom-built or difficult to obtain. These are all technologies that are readily available and easily implemented, which makes fully automated machining processes accessible to nearly any shop.” In addition to the product demonstration, each partner will give product presentations throughout the two-day showcase. DP Technology will focus its presentation on how ESPRIT CAM software can efficiently meet the needs of the automated machine shop. With ESPRIT, once a part is programmed, no coding adjustments are needed.

In addition to providing edit-free G code that works the first time, ESPRIT also eliminates the need for companies to develop their own post processors: DP Technology works closely with Okuma and other machine tool builders to create and maintain builder-certified post processors. ESPRIT also gives programmers a digital twin of the machine environment and full simulation to ensure early collision detection.
